nugamshi is a saudi contemporary artist was born in 1982 in the north of saudi who is interested in the arabic calligraphy art. he is a specialist in developing the arabic calligraphy and typography by his own style. his passion is to develop the arabic calligraphy by practice and abstract methods.

I feel the art in the calligraphy details.

Where did you land your first design related job?

In Qassim, my hometown.

Indiemaj, Kheel n Harakat logotypy.

How much time do you spend per project on average?

6-9 hours practicing but in performing usually about 60 seconds.  

What is your favourite non-design related hobby?

Music, Movies, and Fashions

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

from Japanese and Chinese cultures.

Messy, brushes, paints, and papers.

of course it does.

What do you enjoy most about being a calligrapher?

when performing an artwork, i feel like I’m controling the whole planet.

How do you choose the texts for your calligraphy compositions? What sources do you use?

Most often I choose from the general texts. The source is usually from my own experience.

You have done couple of projects with NUQAT in Kuwait! Can you tell us more about it and when was the last time you were here in Kuwait?

I have never done projects with NUQAT despite I had been as a VIP guest. Month ago (April 2015) I have been in Kuwait.

Any specific artist you would love to do a collaboration with?

Pierre Soulages, Shepard Fairey, and Elseed.

Where do you see yourself after 3 years from now?

More walls works in the various places in the world.

What tips do you have for someone who is just starting out?  

WORK hard, network, and watch your steps carefully as you grow.
