Carol Souki [Venezuela] Musician


Who’s Carol Souki?

I’m a singer-songwriter, Venezuelan/Lebanese and am also a music therapist currently residing in Kuwait.

At what age did you start singing? 

I started singing at 9 years old at the school choir.

At what age did you start learning guitar?

I began guitar classes when I was 17 years old at Ecole de Musique in Lebanon then continued basic guitar skills at Berklee College of Music where I did my Bachelor’s degree.

Who are your inspirations?

My inspirations include Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Fairuz, Lara fabian, Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Boys 2 Men, celia cruz, and Um Koulthoum

Do you write your own songs?

I do write my own songs which I have performed live and finishing up for my upcoming album this year!

Where do you get inspiration for your songs?

Inspirations to write come from personal experiences love, family, friends, hard times or stories of others close to me going through specific situations

If you could perform anywhere, in the world, where would it have to be?

I would dream to perform at Albert Royal Hall in the UK, at Coachella festival, Miami, in Bellas Artes in Venezuela, at Beit el Din in Lebanon!

If you could perform with anyone, in the future, who would it have to be?

I would love to perform with rachelle ferrell, alicia keys, jill scott, sam smith and so many more, what a tough question hehe

If you perform on any TV show or talk show which would it have to be?

I would love to be on the jimmy fallon show, the Voice, the Ellen show, and off course Oprah!

What is your favorite song to sing live?

My favorite song to sing live is summertime (with a band) and on my own I would have to go with Mariah Carey My All i think people here have heard me sing it too many times hehe but it’s always requested!

Do you have any events coming up or recording going on right now?

Yes I’ll be having a show in Lebanon and recording the rest of my songs for my upcoming album can’t wait till you can all hear it! I’ll be working on a video too in Lebanon.

What was your favorite past TV show?

Favorite old time TV shows not show because there’s too many: fresh prince, chavo del 8, Jameel & Hana, In Living Color how can you not laugh at these!?

What is your favorite current TV show?

Orange is the new black, i binge watched season 3 in two nights!

If you were stuck in one TV show which would it have to be?

I would love to be on The Game on BET full of laughter, love, and pain.

What is your favorite past movie?

I would have to go with Love and Basketball, Somethings Gotta give, White chicks (because it reminds me of watching it with my siblings we got it memorized)!

What is the last movie you saw in the movie theater?

Interstellar great movie!!

What is one thing you cannot live without?


If you had a soundtrack to your life what song/songs would have to be on it?

No scrubs (TLC), free again (ledisi), jamming (Bob Marley), Grown Woman (Beyonce), Biktub Ismak (fairuz), Carnaval (Celia Cruz), Girls just wanna have fun (Cyndi Lauper), They Don’t Really Care about Us (Michael Jackson)

Do you have a favorite quote or a saying that is always on your mind?

Quotes depend on who and what we’re talking about. I always say “you never know” “omg i love it (clapping is always involved)

You have been one of the first people who started singing out loud in Kuwait, Can you tell about your music adventure in here?

My musical journey in Kuwait is only just beginning but am so thankful to be welcomed and supported by so many people where I spent most of my life and helped me gain greater experience in places that will be unknown to me.

What was your favorite live show?

My own show at Bayt Lothan Sidra Nights was a success and surreal. The Samsara show at GUST was magical and thank you so much to Mr. nawaf Ghreibah for having me perform and share his beautiful music!

Who is your favorite event organizer that you have worked with? I don’t want to cause issue haha! But I would love to know?

Am just grateful for being asked to be a part of a wide array of events in Kuwait Bahrain Lebanon and Fujairah! No issues hehe

You have an album coming soon, can you tell us about it and there is any collaborations happening in this album?

This album is my first baby and im so thankful to have Outlaw productions work on this with me. I wrote my own songs mostly R&B with Middle Eastern and Latin flavors! I have various collaborations with different producers won’t name them it’s a surprise hehe!

What’s your favorite song in this album?

Real dad is my favorite song so far for its rhythm and lyrics.

How many record labels you dealing with? And who’s the record label who’s releasing this album?

Outlaw productions is the label am dealing with and shootout to DJ Outlaw for his excellent skills and support!

You have been one of the musicians who got invited to perform in The Beat event in Bahrain along with so many artists, how can you describe it?

The Beat was a wonderful experience I had the chance to meet and perform alongside amazing and kind hearted rappers and singers from Saudi Arabia: Jeddah Fam., Runjunxion, knockout crew, Lou, flipperachy from Bahrain, Arabique from Kuwait and Mr. Big Hass who created this beautiful idea to showcase Middle Eastern talents in our region!

How do you describe the music scene in Kuwait compered to what’s happening around the Gulf Region?

The music scene in Kuwait is developing at an effective pace and it’s so great to see local talents come out to the public and collaborate with them at live shows!

Where do you see yourself 3 years from now?

I tend not to overthink the future but will be performing my own work hopefully in various regions because my main dream is to showcase my passion and story to the world!

Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to sing as a career or just advice about careers in general?

I would have to say to follow your dream don’t take peoples comments personally and explore all the creative realms involved in your career to embrace it and be happy.
